Maxxon Gyp-Crete® Floors
About the Product
Gyp-Crete® is a light-weight specialty concrete used as a floor underlayment in wood-frame and concrete construction. It has properties that make it ideal for sound reduction, fire ratings and radiant heating. Its main advantage over cement-based concrete is that is dries with virtually no cracks due to shrinkage. Also, Gyp-Crete® weighs around 35 pounds/cu. ft less than regular concrete which represents a reduction of 23% in weight over conventional or SCC concretes. Once placed, it is possible to nail through the topping into the sub-floor without it chipping. Gyp-Crete® toppings can be installed as thin as 3/4" over wood floors whereas SCC Concrete is limited to approximately 1 1/2" in depth.
See Maxxon's website for more information on the products used by M.A. Concrete Ltd.
About the Installation Process
Gyp-Crete® is a bagged product mixed on-site using a unique purpose-built pump similar to a mini-batch plant. The unit has a hopper which lowers to the ground level where workers will break bags and empty them into the hopper. A bobcat takes a special sand and places it in the hopper after the Gypsum. The hopper then rises to a mixer at the top of the unit. The dry material is dumped into the mixer as water is added. Once fully mixed, a door at the bottom of the mixer opens and the mixture pours into the pump below. The progressive cavity ("screw type") pump then pumps the material into the building through a 2" hose.
